What to bring on the day
Bringing the right paperwork and imaging makes the consultation more productive and helps Dr Piper give you a clear plan in the first visit rather than waiting on missing information.
A current GP or specialist referral
Required for the Medicare rebate. Standard GP referrals last 12 months; specialist referrals last 3 months.
Any imaging of the affected joint
X-rays, MRI, CT, or ultrasound. Bring the actual films or a disc, not just the report. If imaging is at a centre with an online portal, bring the access details.
Your Medicare card
For the rebate. A current photo of the card is acceptable.
Health fund details and policy number
If you are privately insured. Reception will confirm what is covered if surgery becomes part of the plan.
A list of current medications
Including blood thinners, anti-inflammatories, and any allergies.

Westmead Hospital pathway
Public-system patients and acute trauma referrals are managed through Westmead Hospital, where Dr Piper has been a Visiting Medical Officer since 2015. GPs and emergency departments can refer via the Westmead Hospital orthopaedic registrar. The booking forms on this page are for private consultations at Lakeview only.
