Travelling to Lakeview Private Hospital

Dr Piper sees patients from across Sydney, interstate, and overseas. For interstate and international visitors, the practical decisions around accommodation and getting to the practice are below.

Accommodation

Where to stay near the practice

Three options Dr Piper's patients have stayed at over the years, each within a few minutes of Lakeview Private Hospital. Reception can suggest others if these are unavailable.

Practical notes for travelling patients

Things to think about before you arrive

  • Plan to arrive at least one day before your appointment

Allow time to settle in and rest, particularly after a long flight. Imaging on the day of consultation can be tight.

  • Stay nearby for at least one night after surgery

Most procedures need an overnight stay in hospital, then a first follow-up review the next day or two. Flying immediately after surgery is not recommended; aim for a few days locally before travelling home.

  • Bring imaging discs and your referral

Bring x-rays, MRI, CT, and ultrasound discs (or login details for the imaging provider) and your GP or specialist referral. Reception can email or fax in advance if you prefer.

  • Bring a sling-friendly wardrobe for after surgery

Loose, button-up shirts and jackets you can put on without lifting your arm above shoulder level. Slip-on shoes. A small pillow for travel can help if you are flying after surgery.

  • Travel insurance

Confirm your travel insurance covers the type of trip you are making. Some policies have specific exclusions for elective surgery.

  • Companion travellers

A companion is strongly recommended for patients having surgery. They will need to drive you home from hospital and help with the first one to two weeks after surgery.
